Damian Lillard, a former star player for the Portland Trail Blazers, is set to perform well in his debut for the team following a dominant season debut against the Sacramento Kings. Lillard scored 25 points and six 3-pointers in the team's 124-83 victory over the Phoenix Suns, marking the third-largest season-opening winning margin in franchise history. This was Lillard's first game with the Trail Blazers in nearly 43 months and he received a thunderous ovation during pre-game introductions. The game was the first under new coach Micah Nori and with Ja Morant as the starting point guard, Morant had 14 points and eight assists. However, rookie point guard Darius Acuff Jr. experienced a shaky debut, shooting 5-for-24 and missing all seven 3-point attempts while scoring 12 points in 35 minutes.
