Portland, Oregon, has launched a curbside battery recycling program for safer waste management. Residents living in a house, duplex, triplex, or fourplex can now dispose of their old batteries in a one-quart bag, which is then set out with their glass recycling. The program aims to reduce battery-caused fires at recycling and waste facilities. The Portland Bureau of Planning and Sustainability says this will help reduce the number of battery fires at these facilities.
