PORTLAND, Ore (KPTV) - June 12 will mark the anniversary of a day that George and Carolyn Spaulding will never forget.
It was the day their 36-year-old son, Brian, was killed in his northeast Portland home.
“It was quite the shocker,” George said.
The couple shared the story of their son’s murder from their north Portland porch, where they have lived for 40 years, for the 7th year.
“He was a great son,” George said. “Miss him every day.”
George said it was a Monday afternoon when they got a phone call and learned that their son hadn’t shown up to work, which was “unlike him.”
George said when they were unable to get in touch with their son, they drove to his home off NE 10th Avenue to check on him.
“We went into his house and back into his room and found him shot to death,” George said.
The couple called first responders, who they said came quickly. During an investigation, police ruled Brian’s death a homicide.
“There’s one person that knows exactly why this terrible thing happened to Brian,” George said. “That’s the person that pulled the trigger.”
Years ago, Brian’s friends and family went around town and put up posters that mentioned at $2,500 Crimestoppers reward. A private fundraiser around the same time raised an additional $20,000, which is still open.
